What a great way to start the new year. Michele did a great job with her first meeting and I know I'm personally really looking forward to a great year.

Here are this month's inspiring projects.

Here are a few of the friendship blocks I got pictures of this month. February should be a big month since it is the last month of the exchange and we all need to be caught up getting all of our friends their blocks.

There was lots of fun to had at the final guild meeting of 2011. We ate lots of yummy food, Bethany held a drawing for the Finishing Bee, we played a game and of course sew and tell.

Debbie and Deonn presented a great lesson sewing flying geese blocks.
They demonstrated several ways to make these blocks. It was fun to see how

October's Sew and Tell

Margaret shows all the quilt blocks she has finished for the "Time Marches On" Quilt. Way to go.

Michele showed a stunning quilt she made. It is the mystery quilt from the retreat.
She won a Sweepstakes ribbon at the county fair.

Robin completed this quilt top using fabric from her grandmothers old clothes. It turned out great.

Sew cute!!! Amber framed this applique sewing machine project. We all want to make one too.

I think this is Timpi's Spring quilt. It turned out darling.

This is the Halloween quilt Tricia finished as part of the Round Robin last year.

This is a quilt that Tricia's 13 year old daughter made. She won sweepstakes ribbons at the county and state fair.

This is a quilt that Ashley also made. She made it for a fat quarter contest at the state fair. She won 1st place in her category.

Tricia's 8 year old daughter Becca made this quilt. She entered into the 4H dept. at the county fair and received a purple ribbon that means it gets to go to state - a blue ribbon at the State Fair. Not bad for her first quilt.

Such a fun sew and tell this month. I think that we all were inspired.

Rachel made this cute top for a baby quilt. She had made a bunch of nine-patch
blocks and then realized they were the wrong size, so she used them
to whip up this quilt. So fun!!!

Rachel made this stunning cot quilt.

This quilt that Barb made looks so cozy made out of flannels.

The quilting as seen in more detail on the back is darling.

Michele completed this cute wall quilt.

using some of her grandma's clothes.

Our Queen Bee for April was Kami Williams. It was fun to
get to know her a little better and see some of her projects.

We are honored to have such talent in our guild.

What a work of art. Carol made this all by hand except for the
binding that she sewed by machine. There are 5385 piece in
this quilt. Again, all sewn by hand. So beautiful!!!!

Bonnie made this darling ladybug quilt for her daughters 3rd
Birthday. It has cute folded ribbons sewn into the edge
of the quilt. Love it!!

2011 Guild Quilt

The pattern was given out at February's guild meeting.
There will be smaller blocks around the larger
central block. Each month guild members will receive
a different block pattern.

Rachel gave us a glimpse of what the yearly quilt is going to look like.

We had some visitors last guild meeting. Five men that
Rachel has met through her Civil War reenactment group
came in period clothing and gave us a unique history lesson

about her. We are glad that she is in our guild. She showed

Kick off for 2011

Rachel kicks off the new year. The theme that she has
chosen for the year is "Time Marches On". This year
during quilt guild we will learn more about the history
of quilting and some of the war eras.

Rachel is putting together a Block of the Month for this year.
This will be the center block of a medallion quilt. If you want to do
the quilt she is giving two options for the center - above is the flower urn or a
simpler block the Puritan Star.
For more information about this quilt go to the guilds website.

Debbie has put together another charity project for us.
At quilt quild she brought 44 quilt kits for us to sew together.
The FFA at the High School is going to tie and donate them.
If you took a kit make sure you have it completed by Feb. meeting.

Tamara is the Retreat Chairperson.
Retreat will be held at the Heber Valley Camp on May 20 and 21.
If you haven't signed up yet be sure to do so at February's meeting.
The cost is $25 for both days at the retreat or $20 if only coming part of the time.
It sounds like it is going to be lots of fun. Don't miss it!!!

Bethany is over the Finishing Bee. If you signed up she will contact you
and tell you what your project to work on this month is. This
is a good motivation to finish up all of those projects.

This year in Quilt Guild we decided that it would be fun
to do a Block Exchange. I think that this is the first time
that we have done this.
There were twelve quilters who signed up to be in
the group back in September. The group got together
to decide on a theme. The theme that they all agreed
upon was a "GARDEN" theme.
So each quilter made 12 of the same block. In December
the blocks were done and the group exchanged blocks.
Now each quilter in the group has 12 different blocks, each made
by a different friend.
The blocks turned out great. I can't wait to see the finished quilts.

Bethany was our queen bee for April. It was so much fun to hear her mom tell all about Bethany and how talented she is. Did you know she is a ball room dancer?

Rachel went all out and made this super darling snowman for the block exchange.

Rachel also made TWO snowmen for the block exchange. She thought the snowman needed a girlfriend. How cute Rachel!

March's Queen Bee- Bonnie

Bonnie was our queen bee in March. Bonnie is an amazing hand quilter. She shared with us a few of her hand quilted projects.

We also got to learn all about Bonnie. I think it was fun to learn that Bonnie has only moved 2.5 blocks in her whole life!

We would like to thank all those who have participated in preparing charity quilts for the FFA kids to tie next week. Your response was overwhelming! When they are complete, Debbie will turn them in to the Utah County Project Linus chairperson in Pleasant Grove.

If you are interested in the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program, it will be up to you to register online. The chairperson will verify that you completed your volunteer activities, and Disney will email your vouchers to you.

If you were not able to participate in last month's FFA charity quilt project, you may still sign up to volunteer.

Click on the link below. Type in your zip code to see 13 pages of volunteer opportunities in our area. See Page 5 for the Project Linus Quilts. There are 129 other events to choose from and sign up for, including making Twin size quilts or fleece blankets for youth in the Juvenile Detention Center in Springville (page 1). This is a 60 day program, so you must REGISTER by March 1st. You have until Dec 15, 2010 to use your vouchers. Go for it!
